President Tyler Cymet, DO is a medical educator and Emergency Medicine physician who works for the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine in Chevy Chase, Maryland and Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, Maryland. He has been going on medical missions regularly since 1984. And has been a mission director for projects in Haiti, Guatemala, El Salvador, Israel, and Bulgaria. And has been involved in organizing and providing disaster medicine relief notably during the Postal Anthrax Attack of 2001. Dr. Cymet has an interest in the ethical aspects of mission medicine. |

Vice President Dr. Desai is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM). He is board certified in Family Medicine, and is also a Certified Physician Investigator. Currently, he is Associate Professor of Family Medicine, Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. He serves on the American Osteopathic Association’s Council on Continuing Medicine Education, Commission on Minority Health Issues, and the American Medical Association’s Commission on Health Care Disparities, as well as the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners Clinical Skills Testing Advisory Committee. Over the past eleven years Dr. Desai has organized and participated in numerous medical missions to Central America, as well as the Dominican Republic. |

Treasurer Dr. Willyerd is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM). He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and served as the Director of Medical Education at the POH Medical Center, Pontiac, Michigan. Dr. Willyerd is the current Associate Dean for the MSUCOM site in Detroit, Michigan, and he serves of the AOA’s Council of Osteopathic Training Institutions. Over the past twelve years Dr. Willyerd has organized and participated in seventeen medical missions to Central and South America (Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti and Peru) with nearly a 1,000 medical students, interns, residents, physicians, translators and other volunteers to provide care to over 25,000 patients. |

Secretary Dr. Kelli Glaser participated on her first medical mission trip with DOCARE in 2004 and she became a member of the Board in 2009. She has practiced family medicine and osteopathic manipulative treatment in the Denver metro area since 2005. Dr. Glaser is also active in teaching medical students from several medical schools including Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, CO. She has participated in several medical mission trips with students to Guatemala and Honduras, and is looking forward to helping students start their own chapters of DOCARE at their school. |

| Immediate Past President James Cole, DO James W. Cole, D.O., FAODME is the immediate past president of DOCARE International, a position he held for three terms. He has been actively involved in DOCARE over a decade and spearheaded a fund raising effort that resulted in more than $120,000 being donated to the new continuity clinic established in Guatemala in 2011. He has traveled to Guatemala over a dozen times with missions to indigent populations in underserved areas. As the inaugural Dean, now retired, of the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine he has encouraged students to participate in medical missions as part of their predoctoral training. |

| Sheryl Bushman, DO Sheryl A. Bushman, DO, FACOOG(D) is an OBG physician and the Chief Medical Information Officer at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York, NY. Dr. Bushman has a heart for missions having gone on medical missions frequently since 1995. She has served in Vietnam, Haiti, Peru, Senegal and a variety of underserved areas in the US. In addition to her medical missions, she helped establish a food pantry in her local community. |

| Jaqueline Dozier, OMS-II Jackie Dozier received her B.S. degree from the University of Texas at Austin before moving to Glendale, Arizona to attend medical school. She is currently a 2nd year DO student at AZCOM. Jackie is an active member of DOCare on her campus and had the exciting opportunity of volunteering in the Guatemala clinic and witnessing its grand opening this past summer. She has also participated in medical mission trips to Africa. Jackie is interested in pursuing a career in primary care and working in underserved nations around the world. |

| Stanley Grogg, DO Stan Grogg, DO is the Associate Dean of Clinical Research, Professor of Pediatrics and Medical Director of Service Learning at Oklahoma State University-Center for Health Sciences, Tulsa, OK. As a member of Traveler’s Century Club, he has touched down in 142 countries and all continents. Dr. Grogg feels that our osteopathic medical students and residents need to learn and understand diseases and cultures of other parts of the world. Stan has completed medical missions in Afghanistan, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Uganda, Rwanda, Haiti, Mexico and Togo. Dr. Grogg has a Certificate in Travel Medicine issued by the International Society of Travel Medicine. |

Alan Schalscha, DO A part-time Assistant Professor for the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) at Midwestern University, Dr. Schalscha volunteers as a board member of DOCare International, an international humanitarian organization that sponsors numerous medical missions annually. As Mission Medical Director, he annually leads a team of 60-70 providers and students to Guatemala and was instrumental in the establishment of a permanent continuity clinic in San Andres Itzapa. He is the Medical Director for Scottsdale Healthcare NOAH Clinics and as such directs similar compassionate care for those with limited access to healthcare in Maricopa County. He graduated from the University of Texas with two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree prior to entering medical school. He received his medical degree from AZCOM and completed his residency in Family Medicine. |

| Jeff Suzewits, DO, MPH Currently serves as the Interim Dean at ATSU/KCOM and he is also the Associate Dean for Clinical Educational Affairs. He oversees the fourth year international rotations of the KCOM students. Dr. Suzewits helped to facilitate the opening of the Rural, Remote, and Global Health Center at KCOM. The Center provides an overview elective experience in international medicine. |

Mary Jo Voelpel, DO Mary Jo K. Voelpel, DO, FACOI, FACNM is a graduate of MSU-COM, and certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology/Oncology since 1982. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Detroit campus of MSU-COM and assisted in coordinating blood lead level assays for Peruvian missions in the past 3 years. She was the mission director for the Warangal, India medical mission assisting in the care of patients with leprosy, TB, and malnourished conditions. She has also actively participated in Guatemalan missions yearly since 2005 and provides assistance in obtaining hemoglobin levels and counseling regarding treatment of anemias. International medical missions are crucial for underdeveloped countries, a vital part of medical education (should be mandatory), a priceless personal experience, and essential to develop an understanding around the world of osteopathic medicine. |

Executive Director Mike Mallie has been executive director of DOCARE since 2007. His first trip overseas was an exchange student to Guatemala in the 1970s. This experience made him realize that there were needy people who, with a little help, could enjoy happier, healthier lives. As DOCARE’s Executive Director, he has had the opportunity to work with thousands of volunteers to bring basic medical services to over a dozen countries. Working closely with the Board of Directors, he has overseen rapid growth in the number of patients DOCARE reaches each year and the establishment of its first permanent clinic in Guatemala.
